[There's a lot of beeping noises. Someone trying to push buttons and accidentally mashing down the entire keypad.]
[Several times.]
[Eventually there's a grunt--]
There. Now. Leave--

buzz offers no real explanation, just taps the purple button on his collar that makes his astronaut helmet whoosh up.
doesn't take a genius to work out decepticons are the bad guys.]
Probably for the best, [he says, conversationally.] we have enough problems here without... them.

[Sorry, Buzz, that's probably not the answer you were looking for. But it's definitely a very Ironhide Answer. Danger? No, he can pound it. That always sounds like a fun time. And a good way to work off frustration.]
[He rolls his shoulders. And looks down to regard the toy.]
Where are you staying?
no subject
...Around. [look, ironhide may be a Certified Woody Friend™ but buzz still isn't entirely keen on telling people where he's gonna be. them knowing he can even move is more than enough. why must he be observed!] It's quite easy to find safe places when you're this size.
[not a lie? briefly, he wonders if ironhide has space in his cab. then he thinks, weird. that's weird.]
You know. The opposite of what it must be like for you. [nice. smooth. nice one, lightyear.]
no subject
[this size, Buzz says. And Ironhide's one working "eyebrow" starts arching up to the top of his helmet. It only gets worse as Buzz just continues putting his plastic foot in his plastic mouth.]
I am capable of surviving. Unseen. If need be.
[Buzz Lightyear, he turns into a car.]

unseen. right.]
no subject
also: he's aware of the irony of the fact he's also meant to be unseen, but also fucked that up. though he thinks this time, he can get a pass.]
Well... thanks for not crushing me when you transformed. That was very skillful of you. It's fortunate we met in circumstances that weren't dire, which seems to be a rarity around here.
[...from what he's heard. still haven't really hit something real bad himself, yet.]
no subject
[But yes, that is probably for the best that Buzz does not actually say this. At best it would make Ironhide stomp off into the sunset. At worse, there might be some angry posturing involved.]
[What Buzz does say sounds remarkably diplomatic. Enough to where he snorts, shaking it off. Disarmed.]
Nothing terrible has yet happened. Do not see what all the fuss is about.
[He only says this because the Death Dome barely fazed him. Combat, duels to the death? No big deal.]
no subject
good-- he's glad that worked. it wasn't a faux-plactating attempt, either. he genuinely means what he said. buzz is no fan of duplicity, no matter how insignificant it might seem. ...unless it involves a younger toy and santa, but that's case by case.]
I believe there were several severely traumatic events for the humans here over the last few months. [since they started showing up, actually, but he hasn't gone back that far yet. all he knows is it's not recent.] Your increased bodily resistance and strength must be quite the advantage in a situation like this.
[less of a compliment, more of a basic observation.]
Did you hear about that Dome? [woody's mentioned it; has not mentioned how widespread or if ironhide was in it.]
no subject
[Ironhide's been living that war trauma life since before dirt was invented. Listen, that may be hyperbole but it's close enough. Since heck if we know any actual numbers here. Point is, the war has been life, and when your former commanding officer has started eating your peoples' souls...]
[Your tolerance or your ability to deal, get skewed.]
I was there. It was less than pleasant. But survivable. The humans refused to work as a unit, to their downfall.
no subject
[he hasn't experienced anything even one-sixteenth as stressful, comparatively, in his short life, but he does know something about division.]
People don't act like themselves in those times.
no subject
Why fight, when you all have the same goal?
[He waves a hand as he says it, grumbling to himself. It makes no logical sense to the big guy. They're not supposed to be waging war on each other. They're supposed to be doing it to get home again, aren't they?]
[It's foolish. Beyond foolish.]
no subject
[this seems so obvious to him. why is he even explaining this?? buzz shakes his head as he moves along the wall, climbing up to the elevated coping. this time, it's not to see ironhide better. he's low-key surveying the garden ironhide backed him up against to see if it's worth cutting through to get home.
no offense, ironhide, but everything about you is intensely exhausting.]
You can want the same goal in different ways, or be willing to discard the safety of others while you pursue it. [hello, stinky pete. bastard.] Or maybe there is no reason. Humans are... [a little grunt while he pulls himself up.] weird sometimes.
no subject
[Maybe it's obvious to him. Autobots and Decepticons stopped being the same kind a long time ago. There are no grey areas in Ironhide's mind. It should be just as simple with human beings. Shouldn't it?]
[Yes, he knows, he's seen their news feeds, he's seen the histories. It's never quite so easy as it is for him. But on the other hand, here? It should be. Them against the town. Easy enough.]
[He'd elaborate, but watching Buzz scuttle around is kind of fascinating.]
... If you wanted up on the wall, all you had to do was speak up.
no subject
he points awkwardly back through the garden.] I should go.
[...]
Good luck working out the, uh, moral question.
no subject
[Buzz you are very small. And this world is human-sized. Which you are not. Except Ironhide's not concerned. At all. Shush.]
I should be the one wishing you luck.

it's their first meeting. he's allowed to be a skittish little possum.]
I've been here before. [not actually a lie.] I'll work it out.
