57th Transmission - Open

[Anyone wandering the top deck may, in fact, come across a big, black robot, standing at rigid attention.  His optics are fixed on the place in which he spotted the red bird, the last time he was up here.  It isn't there any longer, of course, he's simply watching the spot - as if he can make it reappear by sheer force of stubborn willpower alone.

Although, he's not quite certain why.  He didn't mean to come up here.  The voices are gone, and yet he still can't get them out of his head - whispering his guilt.  And there's only one incident he can think of.  Only one a disembodied voice on this boat could know about.

The little Autobot.

His failure to save her.  Her death in his arms.

He never did find out if it was possible to enter her into the system.  And with the first mate gone now...  The weapons master rolls his shoulders, as if to physically shrug off the thought, and returns to his vigil, apparently unmoved.]

[Yuna has been spending most of her time on the Elegante exploring - after all, if she is to be spending a good portion of her time here, then it would make sense for her to better acquaint herself with her new surroundings.

The fact that so many bizarre things can be inside a single ship is strange, but also fascinating. Certainly, it's very easy to lose track of where one is going while taking everything in.]

[And Yuna now finds herself wondering how she didn't notice this. Either way, she's just bumped into what appears to be a massive, black Machina weapon.

[He blinks, and turns, at the sound of the voice. His good optic narrows a fraction, spying someone he doesn't immediately recognize.]

... Who are you?

[Not the most civil of greetings, but, then again, Ironhide's never been the most civil of 'Bots.]

[Yuna blinks up at the robot - she recognizes his voice from when she first arrived on the Elegante.]

...Ironhide?

[Yuna hadn't expected Ironhide to be a machina, although he did say that he was an Autobot...does that mean Autobots are a kind of machina? Yuna quickly shakes her head, as if to shake the thoughts out of her mind, and offers Ironhide a bow.]

I am Yuna, from the isle of Besaid. I believe we spoke earlier in the week, although we did not actually see one another.

Yeah.

[Now that she's actually spoken, she seems a lot more familiar. More recognizable. Especially when she states her name - yes, he was right.]

Knew I should have turned on the video function.

[He snorts, grumbling something irritable in Cybertronian. Abandoning his rigid pose, he turns slightly, to face her.]

You see me now. That a problem?

[Yuna stiffens slightly. As it is, Ironhide is rather intimidating. Partially because he appears to be made from dangerous machina, but mostly because he sounds so grumpy.]

No, it is not a problem at all. [She offers Ironhide an apologetic nod before glancing back up at him.] I am sorry if I disturbed you.

[Unfortunately for Yuna... the "grump" is more or less ingrained into Ironhide's personality. It's nothing personal.]

Hmnf. You did not. This is an open deck... not restricted to old soldiers thinking too much.

[He shrugs. He's not offended, really.]

I see. [Yuna's quiet for a few moments, content to just stand and take in the scenery. About a minute or so passes by before Yuna glances up at Ironhide.] May I ask you something?

[He grunts, and looks down at her. It's not all that far, with his shrunken boat size.]

Yeah. Go ahead.

How long have you been here? [As it is, Yuna's only been here for a week, and...it's definitely a difficult adjustment.]

[He takes a moment to answer that, actually calculating the days and nights.]

[Yuna's silent for a moment as she tries to imagine it. Over a year in a place like this, away from one's home and loved ones...she doesn't like thinking about it.] Does it ever get easier?

[He grunts. It's only been a reasonable imprisonment because of Ratchet's presence. And the other 'Bots, on occasion.]

[Glances down at her.]

You are concerned about your sanity?

[Is she? Yuna's concerned about quite a few things, honestly.]

Find new allies. It will help.

[This is the grand advice of the Autobot. Befriending King has helped him, anyway. It can't hurt her.]

Perhaps I should, then. [In a way, Yuna already feels like she can trust Ironhide as an ally. Certainly, he's been quite helpful to her so far.]

[He studies her for a seconds, before nodding.]

[She smiles up at the Autobot.]

[He shrugs one of those huge shoulders.]

We are sworn to protect the humans. This is just part of my duty.

Hm. That appears to be something we have in common, then. [Sort of. Autobots are sworn to protect humans, and summoners are sworn to protect the peoples of Spira. Similar enough, in her opinion.]

[He gives her a long look, his good optic appraising her. To him, she looks... tiny. Scrawny, almost.]

You do not look like a warrior.

[She shakes her head.] I'm not.

I am a summoner - I call upon creatures called 'Aeons' in order to fight beasts that are a threat to the people of Spira. [More specifically, she will need to find and summon the Final Aeon in order to defeat Sin, but the Aeons she has obtained thus far are quite good in regards to fighting fiends.]

[Ironhide simply stares at her, as if assessing the weight of her words. His good optic blinks. It seems as if he is deep in thought, about to make some great proclamation as to her information...]




... What.

[Or... not.]

[Yuna just laughs.] Sorry, I suppose it wouldn't make much sense to someone who isn't from Spira.

[He huffs, rolling his shoulders.]

[Honestly, Yuna's not sure it will make sense to Ironhide even after she explains it to him.] My world is plagued by a creature called 'Sin'...it exists only to bring death and suffering to the people of Spira. The only way to defeat it is through the summoning of the Final Aeon, although before that can happen, the summoner must go on a pilgrimage through all of Spira so they can obtain other, minor Aeons, first.

I guess you could say it's like training for the Final Summoning.

[He narrows his good optic, turning the information over and over in his head. It... doesn't really make sense, but it's better than nothing.]

You... summon things to fight for you?

Yes, to put it simply. I do not do the fighting myself, but it all serves the same purpose of keeping Spira safe.

[Until Sin is reborn, anyway.]
